EDGE
A compact drop point and high flat grind for controlled cuts in camp, on the trail, and around the property.
A working knife, reduced to what matters.
Field No. 1 is the founding expression of Cossatot Works. Designed for the land, water, and everything between, this compact fixed-blade knife brings together purposeful geometry, considered balance, and the warmth of American black walnut.
Its drop-point blade is shaped for controlled, dependable cutting, while a tapered full tang keeps unnecessary weight out of the handle. Every detail serves the hand, from the carefully proportioned grip to the durable working edge.
Individually numbered and intentionally limited, Field No. 1 is being developed as an object to carry, use, maintain, and eventually pass down. Not something to preserve untouched, but something that earns its character through use.
Blade Care
Hand wash with mild soap and warm water when necessary. Dry thoroughly immediately after cleaning. The high-carbon steel requires protection from moisture and may develop a natural patina over time. Apply a thin coat of food-safe mineral oil before extended storage to help prevent corrosion.
Handle Care
Wipe the stabilized walnut handle with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid prolonged water exposure, harsh cleaning agents, and extreme temperatures.
Sharpening & Maintenance
Maintain the cutting edge using sharpening stones or an appropriate precision sharpening system. Avoid prying, twisting, striking hard materials, or using the knife as a substitute for tools it was not designed to replace.
Storage
Store the knife clean and completely dry in a protective location. Avoid prolonged storage in damp leather or other moisture-retaining materials. Never place in a dishwasher.

THE OBJECT
001 / 004
Field No. 1 is a singular working knife reduced to what matters: edge, balance, grip, and the quiet assurance of an object made correctly.
Its compact proportions keep it useful all day. Its materials are chosen to age with evidence—not to remain untouched in a drawer.
The first prototype establishes the proportions and performance targets. Final production details will be frozen only after field testing.

The geometry
A 3.625-inch drop-point blade gives Field No. 1 the reach for real work without turning it into a burden. The handle is proportioned for a full, confident grip; the balance sits at—or just behind—the choil.
Certified 52100 steel is heat-treated toward 60–61 HRC, then given a high flat grind and a lightly convex apex for a durable working edge.
A compact drop point and high flat grind for controlled cuts in camp, on the trail, and around the property.
The tapered tang removes needless weight and brings the center of gravity back to the hand.
A palm-filling walnut handle shaped for security without the bulk or hard edges of a tactical tool.
A numbered object, documented by its material, maker, and date—and intended to remain in service.
