The stream
A continuous walnut inlay carries the Cossatot S across the maple face. The five knife positions follow its course and complete the mark.
A place for the tools that deserve to remain in view.
Gorge No. 1 transforms knife storage into a sculptural expression of craftsmanship. Built around a substantial form of figured American maple, its flowing black walnut pattern traces the movement of the Cossatot River, bringing the brand's signature mark into the structure of the object itself.
Five concealed magnetic positions are designed to hold kitchen knives along the walnut stream, creating a deliberate composition of wood, steel, and negative space.
Anchored by a blackened-steel base and finished with a restrained brass detail, Gorge No. 1 brings the presence of fine furniture to an everyday kitchen necessity.
It is an object intended to be both admired and used. An enduring home for the tools that make the table possible.
Wood Surface
Wipe the maple and walnut surfaces with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Dry immediately. Avoid soaking, excessive moisture, harsh household cleaners, and abrasive materials that may damage the wood's finish.
Magnetic Knife Storage
Place compatible knives carefully against the magnetic surface, maintaining control until each blade is securely held. Remove knives deliberately without dragging the sharpened edge across the wood.
Use only knives confirmed to be compatible with the finished stand's magnetic retention system. Never assume that an unfamiliar knife will be held securely.
Base & Hardware
Clean the blackened-steel base with a soft, dry cloth. Remove moisture promptly to help preserve its finish. Wipe brass accents gently without abrasive polishes that could alter the intended aged appearance.
Placement & Long-Term Care
Keep the stand on a stable, level surface away from excessive heat, direct sunlight, and prolonged moisture. Avoid placing it near a countertop edge. Follow the maker's final finish-maintenance recommendations before applying oils or waxes.

THE OBJECT
003 / 004
Gorge No. 1 turns knife storage into a permanent part of the room. One substantial maple form carries a continuous walnut stream; five knives follow its course on concealed magnets.
It is functional sculpture without becoming precious: substantial, serviceable, and designed to make the tools used every day worthy of remaining in view.
These dimensions establish the next prototype targets. Final magnet count, mass, face thickness, inlay construction, and knife compatibility remain governed by physical testing.

The design language
The walnut stream and staggered magnetic positions carry the Cossatot S into a useful object without turning it into a logo plaque. The silhouette stays monolithic, faceted, and realistically buildable.
Pale figured maple gives the walnut stream and dark knife handles separation. Matte black steel supplies visual and physical weight. One brushed brass line receives the river where it reaches the base.
A continuous walnut inlay carries the Cossatot S across the maple face. The five knife positions follow its course and complete the mark.
Rare-earth magnets remain unseen behind a thin maple face, tuned to the intended knives for secure placement and controlled removal.
A weighted blackened-steel plinth keeps the tall form settled while isolating the wood so it can move naturally with the seasons.
One maple body, one walnut stream, and one aged-brass termination make the object recognizable without turning it into a logo plaque.
